Male or female Libellula forensis? - Plathemis lydia - female

Male or female Libellula forensis? - Plathemis lydia - Female
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
June 13, 2005
Posted one of these last year and would like to know if this is a male or female Libellula forensis.

Common Whitetail
It looks like Plathemis lydia crosses the continent so we assume you have it out there. This is a female. Different wing pattern from the male. See. L. forensis wouldn't have black on the wing tips, and would have a continuous stripe along the side of the abdomen, while Plathemis has a broken stripe / / / / etc.

Dragonfly
Thanks again. I appreciate all the work you do.
