Thanks v.!
Problem is the Arnett key still has the old names - like Didactylia. I think the articulation of the basal tarsomere relative to the tibial spurs isn't consistent with photos of Teuchestes fossor I've seen: e.g. https://bugguide.net/node/view/855822/bgimage. Will keep digging and maybe try to find a more modern key :)

I think Diapterna may be a better fit
Following the key in http://unsm-ento.unl.edu/Guide/Scarabaeoidea/Scarabaeidae/Aphodiinae/AphodiinaeTribes/Aphodiini/Key/AphodiiniK.html, among genera w/ large scutellae. I suppose D. omissa, D. pinguella, D. hamata are the options here based on range.
Teuchestes should not have that puntation on the pronotum, according to this key.
Perhaps D. omissa based on https://www.zoology.ubc.ca/entomology/main/Coleoptera/Scarabaeidae/Diapterna.php.

may be, but in Diapterna, scutellum looks much narrower, wedgy--
--at least to my eye
