Assassin bug? - Acholla

Assassin bug? - Acholla
OMAHA, Douglas County, Nebraska, USA
August 25, 2021
Walking on wall in kitchen; the head and neck remind me of a wheel bug (Arilus cristatus) but no fancy wheel. I thought it might be a Masked Bed-bug Hunter (Reduvius personatus) but the legs don't have the same coloring as examples shown on iNaturalist and Fontelle Forest Nature Guide. It also doesn't have the spines or spikes like some of the other assassin bugs do. Appreciate what ever help you can give me. (note: I tossed it out the back door!)

please do not use size estimates, leave the size field blank
only accurate measurement may be helpful

color variation
How much color variation is in these insects?

Thanks for the quick response
Will do! Sorry about the duplicate. I assume acholla is the genus...

Would an estimated size go in
Would an estimated size go in the description? Sometimes a vague estimate is useful, such as when distinguishing Dolba hyoleus from Manduca rustica.

i wouldn't know
both organisms you mention are moths (looked them up) ...of which i'm blissfully ignorant
you're right, of course, that size estimates coming from someone intimately familiar with the group may be very helpful, such as "halfway between Xyleborus affinis & X. celsus" or, say, "about the size of your average Eratoneura" -- such indications are very specific and helpful, but require a trained eye

Thanks for the quick response
That sounds like a good idea...I normally never put the size, but I know size can be a help.
