31 July 2021: MJ Hatfield finds fly larvae in a branchlet of carrion flower, Smilax herbacea.

MJ gave the larvae to me so that I could try to rear them. I think it's not a primary feeder on the plant tissue, but rather, a secondary feeder / scavenger of some kind.
20 August 2021: Adult. Not sure what happened to the abdomen. Specimen is dusted with mold from the rearing container.

But can this
be connected to the photographed larva?

Yes
I'm reasonably sure that it can be, yes. As I recall, I found the spent puparium in the branchlet piece that you had taped shut, which was presumably the same one in which you photographed the larva. There was no sign of any other creatures in the branchlet piece.

.
Thanks, I moved the larva.

Moved from Flies.

Thanks John
I wasn't sure which family; now I know.
