Found by pool. In habitat that contains lots of sweetgum, pine, and oak. Also has goldenrod, dayflower, yarrow, and other wildflowers.

The short wings/pattern narrow it down to the Canicularis group.
And the costal margin of the wing doesn’t appear to be strongly bent. The 3 species in the “canicularis” group are davisi, canicularis, and auriferus. Auriferus is a Great Plains species and Canicularis is a northern species that can make it south to northern Virginia. If you are in southern VA That means that this is N. davisi

I am in Central VA. What does that mean, necessarily? Does canicularis come to Central VA?

 
The only reason I ask is beca
The only reason I ask is because I've seen N. davisi specimens with the pattern that this one has, but never in this color.

 
The color looks skewed and specimen looks greasy
Because of the size/overall appearance I’d say that this is davisi. I’d like a better close up image though
