Unsure - Pachydiplax longipennis - female

Unsure - Pachydiplax longipennis - Female
Hilton Head, Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA
July 19, 2008
This was about the best shot I could get....only landed briefly and then disappeared. I spotted the dragonfly along the edge of a lagoon. This dragonfly seemed very stout and short to me. There seem to be two rows of yellow squares/rectangles running down the abdoman. Could it be some kind of Baskettail?

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

We would suggest
Pachydiplax longipennis. It would help to crop the image since only you can see it larger than 560 pixels wide. It's a little slash about a half inch long for the rest of BugGuide visitors.

Thank you!
Thanks for your ID help. There was another male Blue Dasher in the area, but I didn't realize this was the female. I am still learning! I also cropped and reposted the picture since I didn't realize there was a problem with it. I do appreciate all your help...Carol

It looks more like
you resized it than cropped it. The dragonfly was much larger in the original post. If you put the original back up, we will crop it and show you what we mean.

reposted original
Hi! I have put the photo back that I think I posted originally. I normally crop them before posting. Your help is appreciated. Thanks! Carol

Well clearly our memory was wrong -
it's terrible getting old! We were sure the first time we looked at your image to identify it, that it was much larger. Clearly we must apologize since our crop is no bigger than yours! Sorry to have put you through the trouble of resubmitting it. Our crop will look a little larger in the thumbnail version since our crop is smaller, but it doesn't help the larger version at all. Thanks for letting us try anyway. Looking forward to more of your images.

No problem!
Thanks for trying! Maybe I can get a better picture another time. I was lucky to get this one since it didn't land for very long. It isn't as clear as some of my others since I forgot to turn on the vibration reduction on my camera! Thanks again...Carol
