Explanation of Names
Named in honor of Kathy Eichlin.
Size
Forewing length 8-11 mm (Duckworth & Eichlin, 1977).
Larva to 15-21 mm (Ghidiu, Vasvary, Eichlin & Solomon, 1987).
Identification
Adult - blue-black with clear wings and yellow abdominal markings. See Duckworth & Eichlin in Print References.
Larva - body creamy white with dark brown head and spiracles (Ghidiu, Vasvary, Eichlin & Solomon, 1987).
Range
There are records from West Virginia and Maryland south to Georgia and eastern Texas, one record from southern Arizona. (1), (2)
Food
Larvae have been found to bore in the wood of cultivated holly (Ilex) spp. (Ghidiu, Vasvary, Eichlin & Solomon, 1987).
