Platypedia minor
This is one of the most easily recognized of the Californian cicadas. The strongly rounded lower margin of the forewing, and the straight "tail flaps" of the male(uncus + telson, clearly shown in this photo) are distinctive for this species.

 
Not noisy:-)
Am I correct, Andy, that these are "wing-bangers" that lack the percussion hardware to make the ear-splitting calls? I understand that males tap their wings on branches to attract females.
