Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Formerly considered to be a subspecies of Oligia violacea.
Size
32-35 mm wingspan
Identification
Forewings are a mix of purple, maroon, orange, and cream colors. The orbital spot is round and the reniform spot is oblong and are pale yellowish. The head and thorax are a pale creamy or pinkish buff color. Hind wings are white, with a pinkish tinge on the outer half. Univ of Alberta species page
Range
Southern Alberta west to British Columbia, south to California.
Habitat
Dry open woodlands and forests.
Season
Adults have been found from late July to September.
Food
Little is know of larval stages.
