Catocala dejecta
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA

This is a big one. I guess the body to be over an inch. Of course, I didn't handle this one well, so no shots of the underwing.

I often wonder what the people who named the underwings were smoking. I can't imagine the mental state of moths.

Beautiful photo -- your greys and blacks are clear and sharp, as if a talented artist had been at work with pen and charcoal! I've got to learn how to blur the background like that.

It's all camera and lens
When you spend $1500 on the camera & lens then you get photos like this. :) Of course the subject and photographer have a little to do with it....but it's mainly the lens!
