Undefined Melanchra - Melanchra pulverulenta

Undefined Melanchra - Melanchra pulverulenta
Forks, Clallam County, Washington, USA
July 9, 2008
Very very beautiful black noctuid; Shimmers a golden bronze color in light.

ID by Lars Crabo -
"I call yours M. pulverulenta but there is some controversy. Tim McCabe, a
moth expert from New York, wrote the revision of this genus back in the
early 80's. He thinks these dark NW specimens are an undescribed species.
My guess is that it would be best to call them a subspecies. I admit that I
haven't checked the genitalia for structural characters. For now I would
call it pulverulenta."
