Almost unquestionably a Goldenrod Soldier Beetle; was this place where you found it full of goldenrod, or have at least some goldenrod?

I don't think there was goldenrod present, but I am worse at identifying plants than I am beetles.

I like what you shared
I added another slightly different picture that makes it clearer that this insect does not have black bands around its body, nor does it have a black spot over its thorax. That supports your proposed ID as Chauliognathus omissus. I see that it was accepted.
