Interesting -
We're surprised that you would have mating monarchs so late in the year. Doesn't seem like there would be enough time for any eggs that were laid to develop in time to make the fall migration.

Thank you for the note. Late season mating was the reason I added this photo. I expected all of the good-looking monarchs to be in diapause. There was another pair mating within a couple of feet of these two and that mating appeared to be a 4th generation male with a 3rd generation female. I got good pictures of those two, also.
