Anderson County, South Carolina, USA

Added a new photo of the same individual in all the other photos. Two weeks older and apparently a full adult. (She has moved her web to around 10 feet up and deeper in the brush. Taking photos now involves holding a selfie stick overhead at arm's length, taking hundreds of shots, and hoping a few are usable.)

Compare to this image from Japan https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/57806645

Individuals have been spotted creeping outside of the established range in northern GA into the western edge of SC, and there's at least one sighting in Anderson County this year on iNaturalist https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/93939147 (always gotta watch out for misidentifications on that site, but this observation looks correct).

That first photo looks very close. I had been considering Joro, but all the photos I could find showed distinct bands on the abdomen that were even less like the Golden Silk Orbweaver than mine.

Pattterns change as they mature
Most of the photos you'll find are of mature females. Yours has more of a juvenile look.

Thanks!

Maybe Joro

but we didn't know those were in South Carolina
