Conocephalus brevipennis - male

Conocephalus brevipennis - Male
Lick Creek Park, Brazos County, Texas, USA
September 26, 2021
Singing males scattered throughout the park, mostly in forest openings. A bit different in overall appearance and coloration from typical brevipennis in the northeastern U.S, but cercus shape and song are a match, and no other real options around here.

This seems to match up with the description of 'Xiphidium gossypii' Scudder, 1875, which was synonimized with C. brevipennis by Rehn & Hebard 1915.
