Scuttle (Phorid) Fly - Chaetopleurophora
Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, USA
May 25, 2008
Size: less than 5mm
This hyperactive little thing uses a rapid series of mini-jumps instead of walking or running to move around on a flat surface. The Family Phoridae are also known as Humpbacked flies for reasons not obvious in this view from above.

Moved from Scuttle Flies.

This might be a Chaetopleurophora.

This is a Phorid fly.

Definitely a Chaetopleurophora
