Black Spider - Latrodectus hesperus

Black Spider - Latrodectus hesperus
Minden, Douglas County, Nevada, USA
September 27, 2021
Size: Approx 1.5”
All black, with a ribbon shaped white marking at the front top side of abdomen. Was unable to see the underside of the spider.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

The residual juvenile markings on this spider identify it as a black widow. In this region, it'd be a western black widow.

Guidance for telling western black widows from brown widows in the southwestern US can be found here. https://cisr.ucr.edu/invasive-species/how-identify-brown-widow-spiders
