Eristalis on Matricaria maritima - Eristalis interrupta - male

Eristalis on Matricaria maritima - Eristalis interrupta - Male
Sevenmile Creek, 8 km NW , Lewis and Clark County, Montana, USA
September 14, 2021
Size: 11 mm
Medium-sized fly, lightly hairy abdomen dark with white lines and with a honey-colored triangle on each side, on Matricaria maritima flowers. Ruderal floodplain community with Kochia scoparia, Chenopodium simplex, Chenopodium berlandieri, Helianthus annuus, and Cleome serrulata. Midday to early afternoon, sunny, 66 F to 73 F, gentle to fresh W breeze, good air quality.

Elevation ca 4000 feet. Disturbed riparian corridor on stream restoration site within a patchwork of native and non-native grassland.

Looks like another Eristalis stipator to me based on uniform hairs on the eyes, yellow postalar calluses, black stripe on the frons, and the non-plumose aristae. Male, since the eyes touch dorsally? Confirmation would be appreciated - thank you!

Thank you!
Fascinating. That makes the third Eristalis species visiting flowers in this area this year.
