Efferia albibarbis - male

Efferia albibarbis - Male
Lewes, Sussex County, Delaware, USA
July 23, 2008
While photographing this robber fly, it attacked something very small -- too small for me to see. No prey appears in the photos, but the robber fly appears to be ejecting a greenish substance from his proboscis. Any thoughts about this?
