not sure if this is an American house spider. Why is it so engorged {eggs?}

No, this is not an American house spider (Parasteatoda tepidariorum). This appears to be a female orb weaver.

A clear dorsal view of the spider that clearly shows the markings on the top of the abdomen is the single most helpful view for spider ID. Unfortunately, the photos you have provided are side and face views, which are usually less helpful.

I think this might be Araneus diadematus, but let's see if anyone else has thoughts to the contrary.
