These depressions are located in the Point Beach State Park. Found both along the Lake Michigan shoreline beach as well as sandy areas inland from the lake such as dunes and worn areas of pathways. Any idea what makes them?

Antlion. It is the larva of a flying insect, I forget which. The more neat and well kept a funnel is, the hungrier the antlion is. Drop a small ant or other insect in and see what happens.
