Long-spurred Meadow Katydid - Orchelimum silvaticum - male

Long-spurred Meadow Katydid - Orchelimum silvaticum - Male
Gene Howe WMA, Hemphill County, Texas, USA
September 26, 2021
Found in the East Bull portion of the property, in an area occupied by dense scrub and scattered trees. In this patch of habitat numerous individuals could be heard, with their calls sometimes overlapping. Though the stridulation of each individual was rather loud, they were still well-hidden by the vegetation and difficult to spot.

Said call was a rather fast ticking followed by a very fast, buzzy trill with a squeaky quality. After a pause of variable length, this two-pattern sequence was repeated ad infinitum.
