Grasshopper that looks like a wooden model - female

Grasshopper that looks like a wooden model - Female
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
October 23, 2021
Size: approximately 1 inch
I found this crawling around on the driveway/sidewalk in front of my house in early afternoon. Unlike the grasshoppers I experienced in Western Washington when I was a kid, this one did not jump away as soon as I got close to it, so I wonder if it was sick or injured.

Seems like this one was layin
Seems like this one was laying eggs into a crevice while you were photographing it, it probably simply wasn't able to jump away.
