Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Yes,
certainly keys to propinquilinea. Part of the difficulty is whether they are describing the final instar and whether that description fits earlier instars or not. We don't know enough to answer that, but think it is safe to move this to propinquilinea

OK I'll move it there. Thanks
OK I'll move it there. Thanks.

Wonder if it isn't
a Colocasia?

S. E. Crumb key
From: S. E. Crumb. The larvae of the Phalaenidae. This is the key from this paper that identifies Colocasia. Does this key describe what we are seeing? Not familiar with the larvae anatomy.

"Black hair pencils present on setigerous tubercle ( chalaza ) II on mesothorax and transverse middorsal tufts of red or black hair present on setigerous tubercle ( chalaza ) I on abdominal segments 1 and 8. Skin pavement granulose . Two apical setae on tarsus broad , spatulate . Of northern distribution . Colocasia"

Key to the two species:
"Head not black . Dorsum of body white or pale- propinquilinea [mine does not have the black head, so if Colacasia then likely this one?]
Head and body black .. flavicornis
It may be that propinquilinea and flavicornis are but color phases of one species as is found in Panthea ."
