Hi Catfish
It looks like he is eating some kind of leaf hopper

robber fly food
These are great pics. I have been seeing these all my life and never really knew what they were until recently. I got to see the most interesting thing the other day. Two flying insects came by me and were on the drive rolling around and finally came to a hault. It was a robber fly with a huge horse fly pinned down. He held him for about 5 minutes and then flew off with it. My son got a pic on his cell phone and I haven't had time to upload it to the net yet. I am now a huge fan of these. lol. Ihope they eat all those pesky things.

Hi Beth, Yeah, robber flie
Hi Beth,

Yeah, robber flies are great. They're pretty much my favorite bug to photograph. The one in these pics was hanging out on this one spot on the ground. I took a couple of pictures of her, and then I took a a few more, and eventually I just sat down on the ground and started shooting. I ended up taking about 80 shots before she captured this early instar. She flew off shortly after -- I assume she took her prey with her.
