Caterpillars feeding on poisonwood leaves. - Protambulyx strigilis

Caterpillars feeding on poisonwood leaves. - Protambulyx strigilis
Palmetto Bay, Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA
October 19, 2021
Size: Around 8 cm
There were a few of these caterpillars, and all were feeding upside-down on leaves of a young poisonwood tree (Metopium toxiferum). They would become rigid when mildly disturbed and hostile when touched.

They seem like they could be in the Sphingidae, perhaps the genus Cocytius, but I just don't know.
