milkweed-like/swallowtail-like caterpillar - Calophasia lunula
Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 27, 2008
Size: approx. 1.25 inches
My gardening hat was knocked off my head and when I picked it up inside was this caterpillar. I was unsuccessful at IDing it with either the books we have or the bug guide.

beautiful moth
Thank you! We have Linaria ie butter and eggs/toadflax in copius quantities so provide a happy food-home. We have a very nice habitat for many species.

Check out
Calophasia lunula - Toadflax Brocade, in the guide here. Beautiful creature! What else do you have hidden under your hat?
