10/03/21 Enormous fly larva tunneling in stem of Maianthemum sp. This was easily the largest Diptera larva I have ever found inside an herbaceous plant stem.
I taped the stem back together after taking these photos and set it up in a rearing container.
10/16/21 Puparium

This one overwinters in the puparium stage. I found and collected a similar puparium in a Maianthemum stem at a different, nearby location later in the autumn. Fingers crossed for an adult come spring.
