Aenigmatias, male (MA)
Wow, this slick fly is a species of Aenigmatias, which parasitize pupae of ants (especially Formica). This is a male (females are wingless). First live shot of this genus on Bugguide. Nice find!!!

Quite a difference between sexes
They look totally different! I'm still looking for flies, but it's hard to find ones that I don't think I recognize.

with the shiny scutellum, this looks like Aenigmatias eurynotus to me.
