A. quercifoliana ex Quercus alba - Argyrotaenia quercifoliana

A. quercifoliana ex Quercus alba - Argyrotaenia quercifoliana
Arlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
June 6, 2021
Found as a larva on 5/13. Creates a shelter to feed from by wrinkling the leaf by creating a silk tunnel/pathway. The silk pulls two areas of the leaf together, creating a depression in which the larva resides, always holding onto the silk. Exits are left unobscured at either end of the tunnel through which the larva quickly crawls out of when disturbed. These tunnels are often vertical and when horizontal, always on the underside of the leaf. The larva was found on the silk pathway and not the leaf when resting. Relatively common on Quercus alba. Pupated on upper surface of leaf on 5/27. The pupa is suspended under a mat of silk that slightly folds the leaf. Eclosed 6/6.
