Dyspyralis nigellus? -
Dyspyralis ocala

Size: ~5 mm FW
Found at Alexander Springs Campground. Awfully small for
D. nigellus
, but seems to fit that species otherwise.

Looks like...
You might want to contact RLZ and ask him about this one.

Dyspyralis ocala
Ran this one by Jim Vargo and he suggested
Dyspyralis ocala
. After review of Troubridge (2020) and considering the location where this one was found, I believe this is what we have here. According to BOLD there does appear to be another undescribed species that ranges in coastal areas from FL panhandle to TX. That is where the RLZ image above was found.

Nice detective work Bob!
The size on this moth was probably the biggest factor of why I did not place in
D. nigellus
. I was also concerned that this moth did not have a dark wide median band as mentioned in the description of
nigellus
and showing on most of the images on BG and MPG. The hindwings on this moth also seemed much darker the ones I could see on the few images of the
nigellus
with hindwings showing. I have now moved these to genus. Since we have a page for the undescribed species, do you think it would be OK to move them there?
