Kapala sp. Not Floridana - Kapala - female

Kapala sp. Not Floridana - Kapala - Female
Jupiter/Max Planck Institute, Palm beach County, Florida, USA
December 22, 2021
I found a Kapala sp. in Florida that is not Kapala floridana. The BugGuide page for Kapala floridana states that it is the only Kapala sp. in Florida.... this is not true. In Heraty's 1985 paper he mentions 3 Neartic species other than K. floridana, and one of them does occur in the Southern tip of Florida, south of Lake Okeechobee, which is where I collected this one... although no name is given for this 2nd Florida species.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

It wouldn't surprise me at all ...
... if this turns out to be an undescribed species ... although it could just as easily be a describe species that had not yet been recorded from Florida. Lots of new discoveries in the Chalcidoidea are waiting to be made.

yes
at least someone needs to update the species page for Kapala floridana, Harety's 1985 paper states there are 2 species in Florida, one found south of Lake Okeechobee, the species page states that only Kapala floridana is present

Made changes
I made some changes to the species page to point out the undescribed species. These can be moved to genus level as it is clearly not K. floridana.

Thanks
Thanks, I’ll move them. I have the specimen should anyone want it.

cool !
