Parhelophilus - Parhelophilus laetus

Parhelophilus - Parhelophilus laetus
Talcot Lake WMA, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, USA
May 31, 2021
I am reasonably certain I have the genus correct. How does one distinguish genders in this genus (I am guessing this is a female)?

I assume it is almost certainly Parhelophilus laetus based on probability, but can the species be confidently identified without seeing the cerci (i.e. by male leg color) from photos such as this alone? Just trying to learn.

Thank you both.
I hadn't found that guide previously. That helps considerably.

It would be good if there were a link to that guide on the BugGuide Genus page for Parhelophilus.
