big early-season mayfly - Leptophlebia - female

big early-season mayfly - Leptophlebia - Female
Cardinal Marsh, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 17, 2021
Size: ~15 mm
I was only able to get one photo of this mayfly so it might be impossible to determine its identity. This subimago was out quite early in the season. I noticed that it has 3 tails, a characteristic that I saw in some examples of spiny crawler mayflies.

Leptophlebia
Hi Larry-

I believe this female subimago to be of genus Leptophlebia.

Leptophlebia
Thanks so much for identifying this female subimago mayfly to the genus Leptophlebia, Roger! I see that there is one species in this genus is called the early brown spinner so this mayfly fits right in! I wasn't familiar with Leptophlebia and the pronggilled mayflies until now.

You are certainly welcome.
Glad to be of help.
