Comparison of Silvanus and Silvanoprus

Comparison of Silvanus and Silvanoprus
It is difficult to separate the genera Silvanus and Silvanoprus, and the species Silvanus muticus and S. bidentatus, based on photographs. The characters, shape of the temple and tarsi, are not usually clear in photographs of living specimens. The comparison shot shows the heads and pronota of (l-r): Silvanoprus scuticollis, Silvanoprus angusticollis, Silvanus bidentatus, and Silvanus muticus. The second shot shows the tarsi of (l-r) Silvanoprus angusticollis and Silvanus muticus, with the lobed third tarsomere clearly visible for Silvanoprus.
