Hairy U-forked antennae- Argid sawfly?? (Dorsal view) - Schizocerella pilicornis - Male
Rock Springs PSU Research Farm, Centre County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 30, 2008
Size: 1 cm
I collected this extremely interesting specimen while surveying cantaloupe around 10AM EST. There were hundreds of them flying around and was able to collect several using a bee vacuum. I keyed this specimen to the family Argidae in Hymenoptera, however genera and species ID is still unknown. The third segment of the antennae is U-forked and extremely hairy.

Moved from Argid Sawflies.

forked antennae
very interesting. I didn't know that male Agrid Sawflies have forked antennae. Thanks for sharing this, and I hope someone can ID it for you.

Also here is where the guide page is, if you didn't already know.

Some males:-)
Only certain genera have males with the forked terminal antennal segment, so it isn't universal. The last antennal segment is very long in every member of the family, though.
