orb weaver and grasshopper in web - Araneus trifolium
Rochester MN, Olmsted County, Minnesota, USA
August 30, 2006
Size: approx 3 cm
I found this spider among some shrubs. The size of the grasshopper compares to the size of the spider.

Moved upon agreement
Moved from ID Request.

Prey looks like a Melanoplus
Prey looks like a Melanoplus species.

Up in Minnesota this might be
the Shamrock, Araneus trifolium. Chad will know.

Spider
I may (cautiously) consider a member of Genus Metazygia.
I wonder what an expert would say.
