Cocoon hanging from riparian Solidago gigantea stem -
Antheraea polyphemus
Sevenmile Creek
, 8 km NW of Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana, USA

Size: ca 4 cm long x 2 cm wide
Returned and relocated the cocoon to take a few more photos. Still suspended from the
Solidago gigantea
stem where I found it this fall.
