Mordellidae, Smilax herbacea

Mordellidae, Smilax herbacea
Van Peenan Park, Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
January 9, 2022
In 2017 or 2018 I came across some stems of Smilax herbacea that had been tunneled inside, and one of these had a beetle larva in it, but I never got a close look at the larva or a photo. Fast forward to 2020, MJ's find of a dead beetle larva in an S. herbacea stem:

Seeing MJ's post in winter 2021-2022 I decided to see if I could find a live example and photograph it. The park near me had a couple of easily accessible Smilax dead stems that I harvested and brought home, and one of them had a mordellid larva inside, as shown in the current series.
