Hi Jerry, I think it looks more like Heterocampa biundata. You can look at some good samples of the variation on MPG site and here on BG.

Thanks Nina. I'm new to this and to me the moths are bewildering to say the least. This fellow never moved the entire time I was out photographing insects, even when some of the bigger moths (Imperial Moths) actually bumped into him.
