Beetle - Alaus lusciosus

Beetle - Alaus lusciosus
Austin - north west, Travis County, Texas, USA
July 31, 2008
Size: 1.5 inches
Found on fence in back yard in Steiner Ranch area of Austin, TX. My 7 yr old daughter is very interested in bugs and would appreciate help with identification.

Thank you!
Thank you for your timely & expert responses - my daughter will be happy to have a name for it, no she can't keep it!

But I will move this picture to our guide page
so she can visit it there : )

It's a click beetle
but not A. oculatus - I think Alaus lusciosus seems to be the best match.

I agree with this one.
