Bald-Faced Hornet - Dolichovespula maculata - Dolichovespula maculata

Bald-Faced Hornet - Dolichovespula maculata - Dolichovespula maculata
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
July 31, 2008
Size: about 30 mm
I found this Bald Faced Hornet on my outside screen. He was facing horizontally so I went and got a chair to stand up in to get a closer shot. As I stood up in the chair he immediately spun around facing me. I extended my arms peering through the viewfinder at a distance with the camera as close as I dared to get to him. The shot turned out decently considering the circumstances.

Yes
a D. maculata worker (that makes it female)
