Beetle - Dichotomius carolinus

Beetle - Dichotomius carolinus
Fayette, Fayette County, Alabama, USA
July 30, 2008
Size: 1 1/2"
This Beetle flew into my window at night attracted to the lamp light. It was very big about the size of a "Propel" bottle lid, and looked like a beetle that came out of the movie "The Mummy." It would suck its head in when you touched him on the head but stuck it back out when you touched him on the rear and when put on the ground it tried to bury itself, and was pretty good at it. It could fly but would rather run away. Very dark black and hard shell.
