What the heck - Galerita

What the heck - Galerita
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 31, 2008
Size: 11/16"
is this thing??? I have photographed hundreds of bugs, but I have never seen anything that looks like this. The closest I can think is an earwig, but not quite. Unless it's a larval something-or-other?

It was just sitting on the floor in my kitchen; it narrowly avoided being stepped on. Of course I ran for the camera as soon as I saw it.

Beautiful creature
:-)

Carabid larva
Probably Galerita. See genus page - there is a drawing of a larva as well as a specimen.

What a quick reply!
Thanks for keeping my suspense short-lived - that drawing looks like it for sure!
