Sorry, I don't know what the host plant was. It was somewhat succulent

The plant is a species of Talinum
likely Talinum whitei, the most common species in southern Arizona, but it's very hard to tell for sure without seeing more of the plant (were the flowers orange?). There are five native species of Talinum in that region (perhaps a couple more escaped from horticulture too?).

Moved from Euscirrhopterus.

yes the flowers were just opening up and they were orange

 
Then Talinum whitei
it almost certainly is. It gets confused with T. aurantiacum in most floras, but is larger, has wider leaves, and different inflorescences. Very common in se. Arizona.
