There have been an increasing number of what could only be this species in our nearly 1/4 acre landscape over-looking Chollas Creek Preserve in San Diego, CA 92105.

Within the last few weeks I have collected 16 specimens which I have temporarily housed indoors in a suitable habitat in hopes of getting my camera going to record pics of them. They range in coloration from ebony to a rufous shade or slate grey to dark shades hi-lighted by nearly reddish rings on each segment. Also have substantial observations of their appetites for things I have yet to find on the internet...one of which leads me to conclude that they have a calcium deficiency- which makes complete sense as our soil here is Calcium deficient! Also noting how their defensive excretions are relatively harmless to the human skin yet may cause semi-permanent reddish stains much like various paint pigments that I have used in the past.

What I need most is to communicate with someone with some authority about this and/or similar species!!!

Have discovered much in the way of their behaviours with each other as well as how they react to various kinds of "touch", light, water and heat.

I am no scientist by any means... just your average gardener discovering one of many miracles I have come to witness here in the last 35 years (as of December 2021).

My email: natureguycitygal@cox.net

Hopefully soon photos will be forth-coming!!!
