this is one ugly bug ..lol.. I was mowing my lawn when i spoted this guy in the grass .. I didnt want to mow over him so i gave him a lil flick to get him out of the way and oh man he sure made a hissing/crackling sound at me .. sure didnt like being moved ..lol.. it was a reall creepy sound ..
would like to know what this guy is ..

There are lots of cicadas that look just like this.

Okanagana sp.
"Okanagana" is the correct spelling - they are named after the Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia, where the river is spelled differently than in the USA (Okanogan).

These are "narrow headed" cicadas, with the head narrower than the thorax. There are lots of species in OR and CA, so a species identification is seldom possible from a photograph.
