Two Evarcha species are currently known from our region: E. hoyi and E. proszynskii.(1) A third species, E. amabilis, is currently listed in the USA(2) but should be considered nomen dubium since its description is based on a single penultimate female(1).[jb]
Identification
Tentative placement of Evarcha species images in BugGuide is based on the ranges given by Marusik and Logunov(1). It is possible that they can not be identified from habitus images alone.[jb]
Remarks
The East African Evarcha culicivora is known not only to prefer blood-fed mosquitos over other available prey(3), but also to specifically prefer blood-fed Anopheles sp. mosquitos(4), which are the only known vectors for Malaria.
