I AM chicken when it comes to classifying pictures. I don't want to be wrong and confuse someone else.

We're teasing, of course.

It is good to be conservative when moving to the guide. We find that mistakes are usually quickly corrected, but we clearly understand. We probably could move many of the Acanthepeira to species, for example, but we don't know what all the species look like and, like you, we don't want to confuse people by making hasty species IDs.

Bright orange with no black shoulder stripe

puts you in Ischnura (and makes him a her!)--

kellicotti has black shoulder stripe

ramburi has not much orange on the abdomen

verticalis with more orange on the abdomen doesn't get that far south, but prognata would look like this, without the black shoulder stripe, and that would be a great find. No immature female images yet in BugGuide

hastata is very small with plenty o' orange
