Grasshopper - Chortophaga viridifasciata - male

Grasshopper - Chortophaga viridifasciata - Male
Clarksville, montgomery County, Tennessee, USA
August 1, 2008
Size: inch
Grasshopper, But What type?

Moved

Green-striped.
I believe this is a brown phase male of Chortophaga viridifasciata. Not many (any?) eastern U.S. species have a nearly uncut pronotal crest (top of thorax). Plus, it is a very common species.

Thank you
Thanks Eric Only got one shot, They are very shy

Question on Biting
I know during hunting, a type like this is a various biter and drives me nuts. Do you all know of a grasshopper that likes to bite ? Not to defend itself but to actually seek out flesh as food. The grasshopper or katydid that I’m talking about seems to be biting intentionally and is very annoying during archery hunting. I have to carry a can of off with me just to get them to stop biting me. I will Flick them Off , but they will, turn around and actively seek me, they come right back. They look very similar
